SpedMic and EduGov Nexus Forge Strategic Partnership for Youth Empowerment

FREETOWN, SIERRA LEONE

A powerful alliance aimed at advancing youth and women’s empowerment in technology and entrepreneurship has been officially launched. The SpedMic International School of Science and Technology and EduGov Nexus Multimedia Sierra Leone have signed a one-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a strategic partnership that will promote skills development, innovation, and economic growth across Sierra Leone.

The Core Mission: Driving Digital and Economic Inclusion

The primary purpose of this collaboration is to foster empowerment in key areas, including:

  • Leadership and Education
  • Entrepreneurship and Innovation
  • Technology and Digital Skills
  • Tourism and Economic Development

Specifically, the partnership will focus on addressing digital education and technology gaps and working to amplify the voices of young people in Sierra Leone and beyond.

Hassanatu Koroma, Executive Director of EduGov Nexus Multimedia Sierra Leone, emphasized the partnership’s focus on practical impact and skill transfer.

Abu Bakarr Barrie, Director of SpedMic International School of Science and Technology, welcomed the agreement, describing the one-year MoU as a “milestone” for both institutions.

“This is a win-win opportunity for both institutions to exchange knowledge and skills together with the same aim, which is to capture the minds of young Sierra Leoneans in technology and innovation,” stated Director Barrie, expressing his delight at the collaborative effort.

SpedMic's Commitment: Technical Expertise and Facilities

As part of the agreement, Spedmic International School of Science and Technology commits to leveraging its resources to ensure the success of the joint initiatives. Its key responsibilities include:

  • Providing technical and academic support for the partnership’s educational programs.
  • Offering institutional facilities, research expertise, and knowledge-sharing platforms for capacity-building efforts.
  • Collaborating on joint research and academic programs focused on women’s empowerment and entrepreneurship.

The overarching goal is to equip young Sierra Leoneans, particularly women and girls, with the future-ready skills needed to thrive in the global digital economy.

Upcoming Key Initiatives

The joint efforts will kick off with several high-impact initiatives:

  • Girls Digital Innovation and Media Empowerment Summit: The institutions will jointly organize the 1st Annual Media Empowerment Summit 2025 scheduled for November 17-19, 2025.
  • Outreach Programs: Focused outreach, including digital campaigns, will target young women and girls at basic and tertiary institutions across Sierra Leone.
  • Community-Based Projects: EduGov Nexus will lead in mobilizing stakeholders and implementing programs aimed at economic empowerment and social inclusion at the community level.

This partnership is set to usher in a new era of collaborative development, harnessing the power of education and technology for national progress.
